Holiday Greetings to our Priest Lake Snowmobile Community.
December is the time we now prepare for the Christmas Holiday season and the beginning of our Snowmobiling Season. It is a very special time of year.
The Groomer Advisory Board has been diligent in our preparations so we are ready to start grooming when the adequate amounts of snow arrive. Just so you are aware, we have two standing requirements before we hit the trails: No earlier than December 15th and 18” of snow on the trails. Let’s hope the snowfall arrives early and continues throughout the season.
Since this past season two of our experienced Board Members have stepped down from the Groomer Board. On behalf of the entire Groomer Board, we wish to recognize both Ben Votava and Keith Schofield for their years of significant contributions in supporting the groomer program here at Priest Lake. We are pleased to welcome Matt Spilker and Nate Lewis who will be filling these vacant positions.
We are now finishing all of the necessary maintenance on our Groomer Snow-Cats to be ready for the season start. With the support and assistance of Idaho Parks and Recreation, we will be receiving a new 2026 Tucker Sno-Cat, replacing our 2016 Tucker Sno-Cat. We anticipate it will arrive during the first part of January. Other activities we have accomplished include the restocking of the cedar firewood supplies at the Mollies and Camels Prairie Warming Huts. Additionally, with the assistance of the U.S. Forest Service several brushy areas of our trail system on the West Side have been trimmed to make our trails easier to groom and also enjoy while riding.
New signage on the east side of Priest Lake, north of Coolin, is being installed to direct you to the four snowmobile parking areas: Cavanagh Bay, Hunt Creek, Indian Creek, and the new parking area at Lion Head.
And lastly, I want to encourage everyone to purchase your Idaho Snowmobile Registration and designate your use area as 9A (Priest Lake). Approximately 80 % of your registration fees go directly to provide for the trail grooming here at Priest Lake. You can do this easily online if you access our link at priestlakegroomers.org .
