This update includes information from both the December 3, 2019 meeting as well as the January 7, 2020 meeting.
At the December meeting, the committee reviewed the boundary analysis area. The discussion revolved around two options: 1) reducing the size of the analysis area to include only the private lands north of the Dickensheet and around Priest Lake, or 2) a larger analysis area that would include the Priest Lake area and all the private lands from just north of the town of Priest River. The group discussed both the differences and similarities of the two area options. After considerable discussion, the majority of the group voted to include the larger analysis area. The boundary for the analysis area will assess the larger area including both the lake and the area from the lake to just north of Priest River.
Additionally at the December meeting, the group began the Population chapter of the plan. County staff and board members shared population data (census data, recreation studies, road counters, etc) for the group to use as the basis for the chapter.
The January meeting began with the announcement of the resignation of Jim Woods from the board and the installment of Teri Hill as his replacement. Additionally, two new board alternates were announced, Tracy Roberts and Jana Ostler. Both Roberts and Ostler are from the McAbee Falls area.
At this meeting, the board finished the Population chapter and initiated the Economics chapter. The group discussed the types of current businesses in the area and the types of new businesses that would be most desired in the Priest Lake Area.
The next meeting will be held on February 4, 2020 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Priest Lake Library. Please note that the meeting will be held on the first Tuesday of every month from 11:00 to 1:00 at the Priest Lake Library. These meetings are open to everyone.
