HEADS UP TO ALL THE FIREWOOD CUTTERS

April 6, 2021 - Free-use firewood permits will continue until further notice.

U.S. Forest Service - Idaho Panhandle National Forests requires the public to obtain a FREE permit before harvesting. Free permits help to track harvesting and communicate important wildfire safety and collection information.

Quantities of up to 12 cords are authorized with a free-use permit.

Unlike charge permits, this free use authority does not apply to lands administered by Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Firewood gatherers intending to collect on those lands should inquire with their local BLM office.

Free, hard-copy permits can be issued by mail by calling your local Ranger Station. In-person pick up at Ranger Stations may also be available, depending upon location, and will comply with CDC requirements for social distancing.
