The National Forest Homeowner’s Association (NFH) represents nearly 14,000 cabin owners nationwide who participate as recreation residence permittees – cabin owners on federal land. At Priest Lake there are 121 such cabin owners – all on the west side of the lake. There are hundreds of Forest Service personnel in the U.S. involved with the Recreation Residence program.

Each year, the NFH recognizes Forest Service personnel who “are outstanding examples of those who manage and administer the Recreation Residence program.” The recipient of this year’s NFH award for such excellence is the Recreation Administrator for Priest Lake, Debbie Butler. Debbie will receive this award at the annual NFH meeting in Lake Tahoe in mid-October.

The members of the West Priest Lake Cabin Owners are thrilled she has received this award as for 33 years she as served as a friendly, but official, liaison between cabin owners and the Forest Service, treating everyone fairly, with “the goal of ensuring cabin compliance, forest health, and quality of life issues for cabin owners and other lake visitors”.

Congratulations to Debbie Butler of the Idaho Panhandle National Forest.

Signed, members of the West Priest Lake Cabin Owners (WPLCO)
