DRAWDOWN OF PRIEST LAKE BEGINS OCTOBER 10TH
The Idaho Department of Water Resources will begin its fall drawdown of Priest Lake on October 10th this year. Flows to the Priest River will increase daily to achieve the winter lake level by November 1st. This will facilitate kokanee spawning and accommodate boat and dock winterizing needs along the shoreline. Priest Lake historically began its drawdown near the second week of October. But beginning in 2019, the drawdown has taken place on Oct 1st. And overall, dam operations have varied due to a change in long standing dam operator Karl Duncan, construction work on Outlet Dam, and annual changes in hydrologic conditions. This winter, construction work on the dam won't be taking place other than on-site surveying. Construction is anticipated to resume next October of 2023. The dam is fully operational.
